John of Saxony (1801 Dresden – 1873 Pillnitz) was the King of Saxony from 1854 until 1873. He married Amalie Auguste of Bavaria, daughter of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria, in Dresden on 21 November 1822. The decoration of the cup commemorates this event.
